One of our rarest species, with only two known sites, one colony near Long Canyon on e. Carmel Valley Road, the other a recent sighting in Thompson Canyon west of King City.

The Long Canyon colony is long-established, but there is concern that the recent erratic years of extremely dry and wet winters have impacted numbers: there were no sightings in 2023.

Survey Results
May 14, 2023: Long Canyon; none seen, but numbers of many species were down
April, 2024: Multiple trips found many flying in Long Cyn; one seen in Piney Creek Campground
Recommended sites
Long Canyon: walk just a short distance into the lower canyon, about 10-30 meters; also explore roadway and areas just south of the canyon
